The student has been identified as 22-year-old Tyler Adam George
Police chief Patrick Coggins says the police department received a report yesterday afternoon of a male student openly carrying a handgun in the Clark Student Center.
Authorities also discovered the student removed a 30.06 handguns prohibited sign from a wall in the student center.
He’s charged with unlawful license to carry holder, theft, and places where a weapon is prohibited.
His bond is set at more than $6,000
The chief says being a public university campus and under university policy, the open carry of a handgun is prohibited.
MSU did not send an emergency alert via text or email to students or staff.
Chief Cogging says the sending of an emergency notification would have occurred if there was a threat to the campus.
