In Vernon, a man charged with stealing loose change from a home in 2017 gets a hefty prison sentence.

Donnell Deshawn Thomas pleaded guilty in 46th District Court to burglary of a habitation and was sentenced by Judge Dan Mike Bird to 12-years in prison.

Police officers said on July 17, 2017, a homeowner reported she had been burglarized and loose change had been taken.

The victim had surveillance video showing partial imaged of the burglar, and police then got footage from the Walmart showing a man identified as Thomas using a coin machine to convert the coinage into bills.

When shown the video evidence, police said Thomas confessed.
