After most of Childress was without water on Thursday following a major water pipeline break, water has been restored to the area Friday afternoon, but the boil order issued is still in place.

DPS Sgt. Dan Busing said repairs to the water line were completed Friday.

Childress ISD remained closed Friday after Superintendent Kevin Teran and administration made the decision to dismiss students around 1:30 p.m. Thursday and will return to classes Tuesday.

According to the Red River Sun, Childress City Manager Kevin Hodges said Friday is a “much more relaxed day,” after the repair was made.

“Everybody feels pretty confident at where we’re at with this leak, and right now, TxDot is back filling everything, and they’ll repair Avenue B.”

Hodges said he spoke with Bobby Kidd at the Green Belt Water Authority and said just over a million gallons of water was lost during the break’ however Hodges said this won’t be a major economic impact on the community because of the quick resolution of the break.
