Wichita Falls City Council decided on the fate of 14 different structures Tuesday. Many of those are homes that will be demolished. One structure staying up is a home to many former businesses.
It’s what’s remaining of 615 7th Street in downtown Wichita Falls. Councilors were concerned for the safety of citizens, as they thought the building may soon collapse. But they also wanted to try and work with the building’s owner, Jacob Scott, to save the historical building.
So, councilors have given Scott five days to take necessary measures to secure it and then move forward with development.
“We can definitely make things happen the way it’s supposed to and shore the building’s walls up and turn it into another usable building; but the historical aspect of it is what we’re trying to salvage,” architect Sydney Litteken said.
Litteken said Scott has some ideas but has not told him what may go inside the building if and when it’s fully restored.
