A Wichita Falls man is jailed on a charge of assaulting an off-duty Archer City officer at the United Supermarket on Jacksboro Highway after the officer said he tried to stop him from stealing a personal hygiene product.

Robert Dana Harbold, 49, is charged with assault of a public servant.

Wichita Falls police got a call on Sunday that there was a fight in the store.

An officer talked to the off-duty officer, who told him he had seen Harbold take the item from the shelf and put it into his red shopping bag.

Then he said Harbold attempted to return a package of Hot Pockets at the service counter, telling the employee everything in the bag belonged to him.

The Archer City officer showed Harbold his badge and said he was going to detain him for an investigation, but Harbold pulled away and pushed him, and struck him several times. The officer said the Archer City officer had injuries to his eye, neck and arm.

He said the security video shows Harbold appearing to throw a punch to the officer’s chest, pushing him while the officer was trying to handcuff him, and the two struggling on the ground near the entrance.
