WFISD releases a statement after officials warn to not consume romaine lettuce.
U.S. health officials on Friday told consumers to throw away any store-bought romaine lettuce they have in their kitchens and warned restaurants not to serve it amid an E. coli outbreak that has sickened more than 50 people in several states.
There’s nothing we take more seriously than the health and safety of our students and the food we serve at Wichita Falls ISD. That’s why we follow the CDC and FDA guidance to stop serving romaine lettuce sourced from the Yuma, Arizona growing region as an outbreak of E.coli is investigated. This week, we reintroduced romaine lettuce on our menus that comes straight from the Salinas, California and Mexico growing regions which were not impacted by the advisory. We will continue to work closely with our food safety experts to stay on top of the situation.Thank you.
