WFPD: Man arrested for allegedly choking a woman and forcing her into a vehicle

Local News

A 21-year-old Wichita Falls man is charged with choking a woman until she was unconscious, then forcing her into his car when she tried to escape when he allegedly became enraged that she had had a miscarriage of their child.

Jewel Wayne Fletcher is charged with unlawful restraint. Police began the investigation last month when they were sent to check a crying woman at the travel center on Scott. A couple there that helped the victim told police they had seen her either fall from a car or get hit by a car.

The woman told police she had had a miscarriage in late February and Fletcher was questioning her about it and became enraged. She said he began punching the walls until he began bleeding then grabbed her by the throat and choked her until she lost consciousness.

She says when she came to Fletcher told her to leave and she left and borrowed a stranger’s phone to call for a ride…Then she said Fletcher drove up, took the phone and shoved her into his car and drove off,  still yelling at her.

The woman says he was in fear of her life so she jumped from the moving vehicle and got into the vehicle of the couple who stopped to help.

She was taken to the hospital for her injuries. Officers interviewed Fletcher and say he confirmed much of the victim’s account.
