A Wichita Falls police officer said a man threw a cell phone at an officer, hitting him in the head, and had to be tased, as the officer investigated a disturbance.
Nathaniel Lawrence Bennett, 23, is charged with assault of a public servant and two counts of assault of a family or household member.
The officer was sent to the 6000 block of Kovarik Road Tuesday, and when he arrived, said a woman at a window yelled at him to hurry.
When the officer got inside, he saw some furniture was overturned and two women and a man were “huddled and cowering in fear” in a corner.
He said the woman that had been at the window told him Bennett had “gone crazy” destroying the home and hit the other woman and man in their eyes.
When the officer attempted to talk to Bennett, he said Bennett ran out of the room holding a cell phone, and his face was bright red and he was breathing heavily with his left hand clinched.
He said Bennett told him not to come near him or he would attack him. The officer took out his taser and pointed it at Bennett and told him to put his hands behind his back.
The officer said Bennett yelled “No!” and threw the cell phone at the officers head, striking him in the left temple.
He said he then fired the taser, with one probe hit Bennett in the abdomen and the other in the arm. He said Bennett fell to the floor and then complied with his commands.
