WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) - It's still unclear what caused a man to drive his car into the Wichita River Thursday morning.
It happened around 8 a.m. on Wellington Lane. That's where police said a pick up went off the road and down the embankment into the river
Officials said the driver was able to swim to safety before the truck completely submerged and floated a short distance down the river.
Thursday morning crews were unable to get the truck out because of the muddy banks and fast-moving water.
Police officers said they are unsure if the man dozed off, was distracted or there was some other reason he left the roadway.
