WFPD: Woman charged with burglary of vehicle

Local News

A Wichita Falls police officer draws his gun on a woman suspected of a vehicle burglary after he said she reached for a knife when he told her to show her hands.

Misty Renee Pruett, 40, is charged with burglary of a vehicle.

The officer said he went to check on a reported burglary in the 2700 block of Boulder Drive where a caller said someone was trying to break into the house.

When the officer arrived, he said he saw a woman in a Chevy Cruze in the driveway, that had both left doors open.

When the officer approached, he said he saw that the woman had a small pink dress and a large wallet in her lap, and she was looking into the center console.

The officer told her to show her hands and said instead she reached her right hand down the seat toward a large fixed blade knife.

The officer then drew his handgun and again ordered her to show her hands.

He said this time Pruett obeyed and the items in her lap fell onto the seat. He ordered her to lie on the ground while he spoke to the resident, who told him she left the vehicle unlocked and that the dress and wallet were hers.

Pruett has previous convictions for robbery and theft.
