Wichita County Commissioners began to prepare for the costs of the murder and aggravated assault trial of Kody Lott on Monday.
The commissioners OK’ed putting aside $47,000 for the travel expenses related to the trial set to begin Sept. 10. Lott’s trial was moved to Tarrant County on a change of venue order.
Some of those expenses covered would include lodging, travel and food for attorneys, court staff, and witnesses.
County Judge Woody Gossom said some of the costs will be reimbursed by the state, but he adds it wouldn’t be unusual for the final costs of a murder trial moved out of Wichita County to be double the initial amount set aside.
This all has to do with the change of venue Lott’s attorney requested citing extensive media coverage that could lead to problems seating a fair and impartial jury.
Lott is accused of killing Lauren Landavazzo, 13, and wounding her classmate Makayla Smith in Sept. 2016.
