A Wichita Falls man is charged with arson for allegedly setting his apartment on fire last month at the La Posada apartment complex.

On January 22nd, just after 2 in the morning, Wichita Falls firefighters were called out to the fire at 919 East Scott Avenue.

Police say 29-year-old Aaron Stephenson was in the apartment at the time the fire started and was being treated for his injuries. They say Stephenson said he started the fire after he got into an argument with a man and woman and thought they were going to kill him.

In an attempt to scare them off, Stephenson threw a blanket on top of a stove to create smoke…Then he jumped through a window to escape. Police say Stephenson also said he hadn’t slept in days and was on methamphetamine at the time.

The damages were estimated at 10-thousand to the property and a thousand for the contents of the room.

Stephenson is in jail on a 5 thousand dollar bond.
