Wichita Home Health Service has been a pillar in the Texoma community for five decades. On Tuesday, the founder, employees, friends and community members recognized all that the organization has accomplished.
“I never, never, never thought we would be in business 50 years,” founder of Wichita Home Health Service Dr. Ruth Constant said.
But Wichita Home Health Service has. And even after all these years, it’s founder, Dr. Ruth Constant is still working.
“I’m not going to quit. What would I do while sitting at home? Play cards? If I wasn’t working, I would pay to get in because I love this organization,” Constant said.
Though she gets a lot of the praise, Constant explained why she believes the organization she founded has been in business so long.
“Our mission from the very beginning was to give the very best care, home healthcare, to our citizens in our community area, and we’ve never changed,” Constant said. “Our nurses go out of the way to do the little things that aren’t in their job description.”
Michele Quirolo has known Dr. Constant for almost 30 years and is now serving as a Wichita Home Health Service consultant. Quirolo said 50 years is quite an achievement, considering what a home health nurse has to do.
“When you go into someone’s home, you’re on their turf. And there’s a whole paradigm shift, a guest in that person’s home. So, you don’t really rule the roost the same as a nurse might in the hospital,” Quirolo said.
Dr. Constant said she probably won’t be around for the next 50 years, but she’s not worried, as long as the organization heeds one of her favorite pearls of wisdom from Helen Keller.
“The best things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt from the heart and that’s our philosophy,” Constant said.
Despite it’s name, Wichita Home Health Service provides care for clients in Wichita, Wilbarger, Archer , Young, Clay, Jack and Montague counties.
