A Burkburnett woman is charged with assaulting another woman with an axe handle because she believed the other woman had stolen her food stamps card.
Amy Elizabeth Clark, 40, is charged with aggravated assault with a $10,000 bond.
Police were called to the 600 block of Glendale Street in Burkburnett about an assault.
The victim told officers she was walking at the intersection of Park and Elm Streets when Clark came up and accused her of stealing Clark’s Lonestar Card.
The woman said Clark had a large piece of wood, and hit her in the leg, creating a six-inch bruise and a large amount of swelling.
The victim was taken by ambulance to United Regional for medical treatment.
Police questioned Clark at her home and said she admitted confronting the victim about the card but denied hitting her.
Police said they obtained consent to search and they found a wooden axe handle in the garage of Clark’s home, matching the description of the weapon given by the victim.
Clark has two convictions for criminal trespass and one for assault with bodily injury.
