Woman arrested after allegedly hitting a young girl at a convenience store

Local News

A Wichita Falls woman remains behind bars on a $10,000 bond after police say she assaulted a 12-year-old girl.

Police say Monday around 6:15 p.m., officers were called to an assault in the 1300 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard at the Zoom Zooms convenience store.

Police say they saw Melissa Burnett, 35, yelling and screaming at people in the parking lot.

After police detained Burnett, they say witnesses told them Burnett had hit a little girl several times in the head with a closed fist.

The girl says she’s never met Burnett before and has no idea why she hit her in the first place, adding she had just gotten out of her family’s car.
