Woman jailed after allegedly texting before crash, killed two kids, injured mother

A Stephenville woman remains jailed in Wichita County on $160,000 bonds as she awaits transfer back to Erath County to face charges she was texting while driving and caused the deaths of two young children and serious injury to their mother. She has a tampering with evidence charge for allegedly deleting those messages from her phone.

Alyssa Litwin was arrested in Wichita Falls Friday after her release from a hospital here. She has eight felony counts related to the fatal accident north of Stephenville on Dec. 3.

Two sisters died,  a 9-months-old and a 5-years-old, and their mother Carrie Sackett, 33, was severely injured.  Litwin and two other children were not seriously injured.

According to the complaints, Sackett had just picked up her 5-year-old daughter from kindergarten and was slowing to turn left on Highway 281 when a Dually pickup driven by Litwin rear-ended and pushed Sackett’s SUV into the path of another oncoming pickup.

The 5-year-old was ejected in her safety seat.  Both children were pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers on the scene became suspicious when they said Litwin told them before they asked her any questions that she was not on her phone before the crash. She later admitted she had deleted texts and officers later recovered data showing texting before the accident.

Litwin’s 2-year-old  son was not injured and the driver and baby in the other pickup also were not injured.
