UPDATE: Two dead following Gainesville plane crash


UPDATE: DPS officials say the instructor, Francesca Norriss, 25, from North Richland Hills has died at the hospital. The student pilot, Yu Qiu, 25, from China died at the scene.
GAINESVILLE, TX (KFDX/KJTL)—One person is dead and another is in critical condition, following a plane crash Sunday afternoon.

According to DPS Staff Sgt. Mark Tackett, troopers received a call about a plane crash at 4:22 p.m.

The twin-engine Piper crashed, caught fire and burned in a hay-pasture between Gainesville Municipal Airport and County Road 404.

Aboard the plane were the pilot and a student. The student was killed and the instructor was taken to Parkland Hospital for their injuries.

Sgt. Tackett said DPS, Cooke County EMS and the Cooke County Sheriff’s office all responded to the scene.

The NTSB is en route and will be leading the investigation into what led to the plane crash.
