Investigators are working to determine the exact cause of a series of fires and explosions that left one person dead and dozens more injured in three Massachusetts communities Thursday evening.
It’s believed over-pressurized gas lines created leaks in dozens of homes and contributed to at least 60 fires.
More than 8,000 people were evacuated in Lawrence, Andover and North Andover.
Leonel Robson, 18, of Lawrence, was killed when a chimney blown over by one of the gas explosions landed on his car. Another 25 people were hospitalized.
Columbia Gas utility customers had received a notice earlier in the day stating that the company would be “updating natural gas lines.”
