An Idaho man is lucky to be alive after crashing his plane into trees nearly 60 feet tall in a remote area Monday night.
Firefighters say the 79-year-old pilot dialed 911 shortly after the crash in McCall.
Crews headed out to the area on snowmobiles, equipped with rope and climbing gear.
After careful consideration, a volunteer firefighter was called in to climb the tree to get the pilot safely to the ground.
Once he reached the top, the firefighter used webbing to secure the plane to the tree. He then helped the pilot put on a safety harness, and lowered him to safety.
