A stolen art mystery has been solved.
In 1991 someone stole an expensive painting from the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall during a performance.
It was called “Palette,” by local painter Jon Corbino. Worth around $10,000, it was owned by the Fine Arts Society of Sarasota.
The police investigation went nowhere and it was eventually forgotten, until Eric Bowyer recently went to an estate sale.
“I was like, ‘Wow, Jon Corbino,’ and I looked at the price and it was $25,” recalled Bowyer.
Bowyer is a treasure hunter. He’s found many valuable pieces of art at yard sales. He had a hunch this was valuable, so he did research and learned it was stolen.
“Immediately I said, ‘We have to give this back to them,'” said Bowyer. “They asked me if I wanted a reward, I said, ‘Of course not. My reward is just to be able to give this back to you.'”
