Transgender Teen Wins Right to Wear Makeup in License Photo

National News
(WYFF) There has been a legal victory for a transgender teen and her fight to wear makeup in her driver’s license picture.

Chase Culpepper was born male but identifies as female.

In March of 2014 in Columbia, South Carolina, she was told to remove her makeup while taking her DMV photo.

Now over a year later she will soon have a photo that matches the way she looks every day.

A settlement was reached with the DMV and the family of 17-year-old.

Chase made the announcement on the state capitol steps Wednesday.

“And from now on people applying for a license will be photographed the way they appear on a regular basis, even when their hair, makeup or clothing doesn’t match the DMV’s expectations of how a man or a woman should look,” said Culpepper.

The family’s attorney says this is a victory for all people in the transgender community.

The new policy changes should be in place by the beginning of May.
