Police Search for Victims in Quinceañera Scam

UPDATE: The Wichita Falls Police Financial Crime Unit is warning residents about a suspected scammer they say may prey on girls and their families who are planning Quinceañera parties.

Those parties are a Hispanic tradition to celebrate a girl’s 15th birthday.

Police say 40-year-old resident of Arlington, Moises Reyes-Leal is under investigation by San Antonio Police, the state attorney general and others for allegedly fleeing with thousands of dollars paid to organize and produce those parties.

One woman from San Antonio says she paid him $12,000 she scrimped and saved for, and he disappeared without doing anything.

Police here say they have information he had set up in Wichita Falls and was leasing and using FM 96.3 as a base of operation.

“Detectives with the Wichita Falls Police Department’s Financial Crime Unit received information by Bexar County that 40-year-old resident of Arlington, Moises Reyes-Leal (aka El Porky), is under investigation by the San Antonio PD, Texas Attorneys Office, and Ellis County Sheriffs Office for fraud related to scamming people with the promise of planning and holding their Quinceañera and then fleeing after payment was made.

Information was also obtained that Reyes-Leal was falsely marketing advertising. The information was that Reyes-Leal had set up in Wichita Falls and was leasing and using FM 96.3 as a base of operation.

Reyes-Leal was arrested for a theft of service warrant from a previous investigation from Ellis County.
