NBC NEWS – The latest fireworks safety poll reveals that people are three times more likely to wear eye protection while cleaning and repairing their homes than they are while handling fireworks.

According to the survey, 54 percent of Americans say it’s okay to let children ages 5 to 10 play with sparklers or other fireworks – and at least a third have been injured by fireworks or know someone who has.

Experts say the safest way to avoid injury is by attending a professional display rather than using your own fireworks at home.

But for those who still choose celebrate at home, they suggest not allowing young children to handle any type of firework, always wear protective eyewear, and to always follow the fireworks laws in your area.
