Before the last school bell rang, Wichita Falls ISD teachers had the opportunity to recognize certain students.
Awards were given for everything from perfect attendance to top student in each grade level.
But, an end of year ceremony at Barwise Leadership Academy also honored the school’s principal — Omar Montemayor.
For the last 32-years Montemayor has served as an educator in various positions within the WFISD.
Hailey Babbel explained his influence on her and her classmates saying, “He takes his time to get to know each one of us and he acknowledges our presence when where here and he’s just a really good principal.”
It’s a sense of appreciation shared by parents as well.
“I feel like he is very relatable to the students. I feel like he’s very inspiring and motivated,” said Sarah Babbel.
It’s because of his influence that Hailey and her friends wanted to Pay It Forward the $300 to Mr. Montemayor for his dedicated service.
It’s a gift that brought a standing ovation and which Montemayor said goes beyond the physical money.
“We get into this profession because of the kids and because we care about the kids. Then when they give that back to us and say hey we care about you….that’s everything for an educator,” Montemayor said.
And before the school year ended, Montemayor wanted to offer one last piece of advice to students, “Just keep on working hard. Always believe. Always have hope. You have teachers, you have parents that love you.”
