T.H.O.R. Participants Celebrate At Inaugural Red River Smoke Out

Each year hundreds of runners prepare for the T.H.O.R. obstacle run, and that means they work up quite the appetite.

T.H.O.R. is a 5k off-road challenge sponsored by the Leadership Wichita Falls class of 2011.

Participants spent Saturday morning climbing up walls and stomping through mud puddles, and after all the athletes got their workout in they celebrated over some barbeque and live music at the first annual Red River Smoke Out.

More than a hundred judges put their taste buds to work to judge four different categories including, the best beans, brisket, pork ribs, and then chicken.

“We’ve gotten a great response from competitors, that’s really where you want to keep people happy because you want to make sure if they’re happy they’re going to come back next year and invite they’re other cooking friends. Right now we have 25 competitors. We hope to have that doubled by next year,” organizer David Cook says.

The event was sanctioned by the Lone Star Barbeque Society with over $7,500 up for grabs!

Also, pit masters had their savory barbeque out for sampling to the public for just a dollar.

All of the proceeds from the event will go to the Childrens Aid Society of Wichita Falls.
