“The Voice” Heats Up

(NBC) “The Voice” moves into its playoff round tonight as 20 artists begin vying for America’s vote.

At age 15, Sawyer Fredericks is the youngest contestant among the Top 20. He’s on a team with three other teenagers and a 22-year-old coached by Pharrell Williams, who doesn’t look for typical artists.

“He’s really allowing me to be myself on the team, just keep my originality,” Fredericks says.

The “senior” singers onstage are Joshua Davis and Tonya Boyd-Cannon. They round-out Team Adam’s tribe of soul-singers and balladeers.

Team Christina is loaded with powerhouse divas and one “divo” with a sky-scraping falsetto. Former opera singer India Carney has had lots of training, but nothing like “The Voice.”

“I’m learning every day. I don’t think they understand, but they’re teaching me a whole lot,” she says.

Four-time champion coach Blake Shelton thinks he’s got a few aces up his sleeve with a team that includes one country crooner and two women who have felt the sting of failure.

“I know how to accept disappointment,” says Sara Potenza. “I don’t know how to accept success, but I’m trying!”

They’ll all give it their best shot before a live audience tonight.
