After touring flood recovery centers, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is warning against price gouging and cleanup scams.

Paxton visited some of the hardest-hit areas of recent deadly flooding.

He advises storm victims to ask contractors for references and be cautious of operators from outside of the affected areas.

Wichita and archer counties are among 70 Texas counties under a state disaster declaration.

Along with flood recovery scams, emergency managers reminded residents about burning debris during search efforts.

“The last thing people who have lost everything are bad actors taking advantage of these circumstances. To that end I’d like to caution everyone in any area affected by the flood to be extremely careful with people selling you services,” Paxton said.

At least 31 people have been killed in the storms across Texas and Oklahoma.

Twenty-seven of those deaths in Texas, and at least ten people are still missing.
