LAKE TRAVIS, Texas (KXAN) — When Lake Travis firefighters were surveying potential hazards from rising floodwaters Thursday, they spotted two flags waving just above the water line and knew they had to act.

The American and Texas flags were at the top of a flagpole that had been mostly covered in water. They steered their boat near it and a firefighter removed the flags.

“Both flags were rescued, folded, and then safely transported to shore,” Lake Travis Firefighters wrote on Facebook.

Commenters on Facebook tagged the flags’ owner, and the firefighters plan to work to return them.
