Whataburger says it has voluntarily removed white buns and Texas toast from restaurants spanning the state.
The San Antonio-based burger chain said they removed the buns and toast following a quality issue with one of their suppliers. A spokesperson for Whataburger says it was an issue with the yeast used to make the buns, affecting the taste.
Whataburger says there is no health risk.
The news comes as In-N-Out reopened its Texas burger restaurants following a problem with its buns. When asked if Whataburger used the same supplier, the spokesperson said they could not answer.
“We’re working to get new buns to impacted restaurants in DFW, East & West Texas, OK and NW Arksanas [sic] today,” Whataburger said in a tweet Wednesday afternoon.
For now affected restaurants are serving burgers and sandwiches on a wheat bun, flour tortilla or even bun-less until they get a fresh delivery.
The company apologized for any inconvenience.
