Meet the Mustang: Jenna Hering – April 22, 2019

Local Sports

Joining me now for this week’s Meet the Mustang is junior catcher Jenna Hering. Let’s get right to the questions!

WHAT IS THE HIGHLIGHT OF YOUR ATHLETIC CAREER?

It would have to be playing catcher and playing softball in high school up in Wisconsin. And then being able to come back after a stint of three years and then playing for my seniior year at Midwestern. It has been kind of a whirlwind but really fun so far.

SO YOU ARE AN ATHLETIC TRAINING MAJOR, WHAT IS THE MOST GRUESOME INJURY YOU’VE WITNESSED?

I would have to say it was always in football, I saw a ruptured bicep tendon, a dislocated shoulder, and dislocated fingers. Dislocated fingers were always gross.

OK, FUNNIEST TEAMMATE AT MIDWESTERN STATE?

I would have to say Bailey Wamsley, she is a little bit of a goofball so she is alwasy fun to be around.

WHO IS YOUR MOST INTENSE TEAMMATE?

I would have to say Misty, she is our pitcher and she is always ready to go and she’s really fun either way but she is really intense about the game which is good to have on your team too.

OK, MARK RYAL ISN’T KNOWN FOR BEING A MAN OF MANY WORDS, SO FILL IN THE BLANK: HEAD COACH MARK RYAL IS…..?

Umm, mysterious. I would say that is a good word for him, yeah.

AND YET HE HAS SORT OF A QUIRKY SENSE OF HUMOR AS WELL

He does have a dry sense of humor and it’s kind of like what did you just say? But he is a good coach and it has been enjoyable to play for him this year.

OK YOU WERE A CATCHER IN HIGH SCHOOL AND CATCHERS OFTEN GET PULLED FOR PINCH RUNNERS, DID IT EVER BOTHER YOU THAT YOU DIDN’T GET TO SCORE RUNS?

Yeah, in high school I was fast enough to stay on the base for a little bit but it is hard to get your gear on in between the innings so it is kind of frustrating when you don’t get your runs in but as long as they score the run I am happy.

WHAT IS YOUR DREAM SCENARIO AT THE PLATE?

Bases loaded, full count, and I hit a homerun to win the game. That would be awesome.

ARE YOU THE TYPE THAT TYPICALLY SHOWS UP LATE OR EARLY?

I would say early, I like to put in the work in on the field and catch the coach’s eye a little bit to see if I can get some extra playing time and kind of gain their trust a little bit.

WHAT IS YOUR WALK UP SONG?

Something Bad About to Happen by Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert.

You can catch MSU in action one more time at home. They host Eastern New Mexico Friday & Saturday.
