Holliday’s Justin Jones saw his first collegiate playing time on Saturday night for Midwestern State. Jones ran for 63 yards and a touchdown on just six carries in a win at Eastern New Mexico. Jones was needed after an injury to starting running back Vincent Johnson.
MSU head coach, Bill Maskill, said, “We’ve been telling him all year long we didn’t really want to play him, and if something happened to Vinnie, we were going to play him. Vinnie got hurt in the first half, and we rode out the first half with Gabriel. We told him at halftime. Coach Herron told him at halftime, ‘you’re gonna go.’ He’s been a soldier all year long. His mom and dad and brothers and sisters and everybody else in the world were here waiting for him at 4:30 in the morning. It was his birthday too!”
