With the loss of five seniors, the Mustangs welcome plenty of new blood.. and personality..

Noel Johnson said,”I think it’s going to be an equal opportunity team. I think anybody on any night, especially with our top eight can get hot, and then were gonna be bigger inside. We’re going to have some more size inside, but the experience of our post players are gonna be huge for us, and then the experience of our one-two positions is going to be huge for us and so I think on any night depending on who were playing and what our advantages are, were going to have some success.”

The Mustangs have two returners with quite a bit of experience under their belts.. Junior Mica Schneider and Sophomore Kityana Diaz.

Noel Johnson said,”You know Mica is… I am looking for her to have a breakout year. She came off the bench last year for us playing behind Whitney Taylor and Kristen Rydell and so she’s had two great scrimmages for us. She wears many hats for our team as far as what position she plays, she can play one through four. But  I am looking for her to do good things.. She’s shooting the ball well right now.”

Mica Schneider said,” We had some power struggles last year, I think we have people willing to learn right now and with that and people thriving and having the thirst to be better and I think that is what’s helping, and we play off each other really well.”

Noel Johnson said, “Tana is just a kid that is going to make things happen. She has quick hands. She’s dynamic. She’s athletic, she creates a lot of offense from defense um her shot has improved tremendously. She’s coming in with a lot more maturity on her shoulders so you know shes a sophomore now so she went through that freshman grind of seeing some minutes and not seeing some minutes and she’s learned from it.”

Kityana Diaz said, “We all need to connect with each other.. our biggest strength is when we do connect, we’re gonna be dominate, were gonna be a great team.. a hard team to play with.

The Mustangs are ranked eighth in the Lone Star Conference preseason poll, but that won’t stop them from trying to prove the naysayers wrong.

Kityana Diaz said, “And I still think we have that chip on our shoulder, because last year at the beginning of the season we were doing really well and then it just became a downfall and to be ranked eighth is just unacceptable for us like we have so much talent, and we know what we can actually do so I think it’s just another chip on our shoulder to prove to everyone that we are better than eighth.. being eighth.”

Mica Schneider said, “But I think what helps us is that were going to surprise some people, I don’t think people expect us to be good, so after I last two scrimmages, I felt like we were doing really well.

It is a new season for the Mustangs.. full of new players, new opportunity, and hopefully a few surprises.
