The doctors estimated the recovery time to be between nine and twelve months. Some said Tyler Etheredge would never play sports again, but his hope never wavered… Instead, He took it as a challenge.

“Slowly just went from crutches to the boot with no crutches, to the shoe and slowly just running and just throwing and just stuff like that,” said Tyler Etheredge.

Seven months… Etheredge recovered in record time to make it back on the pitching mound for his Junior season. He has now pitched in four games and getting better each outing.

“Just not thinking about the stuff that is hurting if its hurting and just focus on the good and do your job. It really opens your eyes up, becuase you can lose anything in the blink of an eye and it just makes you be thankful for the things that God’s given you,” said Tyler Etheredge.

“It was to be expected he would be a little eractic if that makes any sense, but his stuff was still there. You can tell the talent, the arm talent, was still there. His mobility is a little bit of an issue, but hes getting better and better at that. And the big deal was if he could keep it on the black and felt good  then we were going to let him throw, and hes done really well at that. He’s gotten better each time out. He’s gonna be a weapon in our arsenal before this is all over, hes going to be someone thats going to make a difference come playoff time for us,” said Scott Belcher.

Etheredge’s hard work and determination has inspired the communtiy and also his teammates to battle adversity on and off the field.

“Everybody looks up and says, ‘Man if he’s out there doing this, then I need to shut my mouth and go to work.’ And anyday you wake up and have a chance, its a blessing. Its a blessing that he’s here and were fired up about that. His teammates have rallied around him, and they’re truly like a bunch of brothers. They’re fun to be around. They’re fun to watch. It’s fun to watch them interact, even just having a meal with them is good. I think they push each other. ‘As iron sharpens iron so does one man sharpeneth another.’ And thats the way they attack it,” said Scott Belcher.

Challenge accepted. Tyler Etheredge may not be where he wants to be yet, but with the help of his coach and teammates and.. his positive mindset…  you can bet he’ll come out even stronger than before.
