You can’t just pick one thing that the lady trojanettes are excedingly talented at…. The 2019 Windthorst Softball team consists of many talented athletes who all excell on both sides of the ball.
“I think were actually pretty strong at both aspects. Were really great on defense. We have great pitching, but its always backed up by a really great defense, and then were strong 1-9 hitters. There is not a automatic out in our lineup. Everyone does the job that their supposed to do so thats definitely a strength of our team. But personality is a definite one for us as well. This team is more like a family. They get along. They fight like sisters. They get along like sisters and thats kind of how it goes,” said Alyson Deatherage.
Windthorst has a 24-5 record going into the area round playoff series against Harper.. all with the help of Junior Abby Brown and Senior Mackenzie Gillispie.
“They’re great leaders on this team. You know on the defensive side and the offensive side. They both had two outstanding catches in the Albany series. Mackenzie kind of spurred that along. She set the tone for the game with the diving catch on a bunt to pick off a double play and that kind of set the tone and we just carried it on. You know Abby’s a leader behind the plate and does a great job with that with her diving catch and just the effort that they give out is just a really great thing and their a great aspect to our team,” said Alyson Deatherage.
“This teams different because theres a lot more energy. Theres a lot more positive attitude. We’ve all played together since we were probably in 6th grade, and we’ve all just kind of bonded as more of a family,” said Mackenzie Gillispie.
“I dont think there’s one thing that were best at. Were just kind of solid all the way around, in being able to trust in each other and be comfortable with each other that helps us bring out the best qualities in us,” said Abby Brown.
The windthorst softball team does have a hidden talent…
Nats: Singing: “Listening to the kind of music she doesnt like.. Cause she’ll never know your story like I do…”
“We sing on the bus really loud and annoy the coaches,” said Mackenzie Gillispie.
“I mean there always joking on the bus. They’re singing all the way down.. whenever we start warmups.. they’re always pretty loose. They dont take too much really seriously.. and they dont freak out as much,” said Alyson Deatherage.
The Windthorst Trojanettes will be singing all the way to Glen Rose for the Area Round Playoff Series…. looking forward to more wins.. and having fun while they’re at it.
