The City View Mustangs had never been district champs…until now. On April 7th, the Mustangs finished with 117 points, only six points ahead of Holliday, to take first place at the district championship meet.
“Proud of these guys. This is the first time we’ve won district in track. Third is the best we’ve done before,” says track and field head coach, Doug Hill.
Senior Uziah Tidwell says he sees a difference between this years team compared to previous teams, “We’re just working a lot harder than we have the other three years I’ve been here. A lot harder, more aggressive. We really want it this year, we really wanted it and we got it.”
“Great attitude. They don’t talk back. I’ll say, hey we’re going to run two miles, and they go okay. They might not run it the fastest, but they’ll do it. I guess that’s what makes this group different than the ones I’ve had before. They didn’t fight anything, they know they had a chance to be good, and they will do anything it takes to do it,” adds Hill.
After coming into this year with much uncertainty, the youth on this team is proving to serve the Mustangs well. They’ve broken three different City View records over the course of this season.
“The goal is to get as many kids as we can out to regionals. All of our kids that made the individual event, if we can get out and just run as hard as we can, we’ll see what happens that day, ” says Hill.
