Hey everybody, this is meteorologist Scott Cook here in the weather center, now we were at United the other day selling weather radios as well as helping program them but if you didn’t get a chance to go out and purchase one for $29.99 down at Market Street you can still go buy them, but there won’t be anyone there to program them for you.
So let’s take a look at one of the weather radios that we have here at KFDX, now this is an older model the newer ones are to be a little bit easier to work with but this one is going to be pretty standard for what you can expect these weather radios.
They are gonna have a little antenna that way you can get the signal and on the side depending on which one you have you will be able to turn them on and off this one of course is on the demonstrate for you guys and along the back there is an external power supply so you can plug it into the wall outlet but for our demonstration we’re gonna be working on battery power. Battery for these will last for around a week or so, so if you’re going to have the weather radio on all the time plugged into the wall will be the best option for you guys. But if you are gonna have it on when there is a severe weather event that’s about to arrive then running it off the battery should be fine.
Now, with this you’re going to initially see the time displayed upon it to get into the menus to set the weather radio up you gonna hit the menu button and then you have a bunch different options you can reset the time, set the alarm between either beeps or I believe it was a jingle, you can set the language which we are going to use English, set location which we tell you set the location for alerts to be sent out to you so if you want it for a very specific county which we suggest that you set these for the county you’re in and a few of the surrounding counties in case there are any storms are headed your way you’ll get a notification for them, we also have on the alert type and we can test the alarm.
Katy do you think we should test the alarm on this one. Hey, let’s go for it! All right so in order to select what option you like you just hit the select button… wow!
Yeah, they are very loud so if there are any storms on the way you’ll definitely know this will go off and it’ll let you be aware that there is an event headed your direction. You will also hear the people speaking they will send out information through this, so the alarm go off and then you’ll hear a voice telling you about what storms are on the way, where there’s a severe weather, and how long it may take to get to you.
Always if you do hear that and you wanted tune in to KFDX we will be also on air to give you guys the latest information we are also on Facebook and Twitter as well as texomashomepage.com.
So hopefully this helps you understand a little bit more about your severe weather radio, this one, of course, is a Midland radio but there are other companies that make these so it’s a great idea to have one of these to great investment for you guys especially here in Texoma where they can get used quite a bit.
Well, I hope you guys have a great day, thanks for tuning in.
