What the Tech: App of the Day—LinkedIn Learning

What the Tech

Every few days I get an email or message asking about jobs you can work in your spare time or from home. These include graphic design, photography, writing, office management. The next question is always “where can I learn to do those things?”

The app of the day can help.

LinkedIn Learning offers online training for jobs that are in demand now. Web and graphic design, sales, marketing. Dozens of skills, including Google and Microsoft software. Learn how to create your own business plan or become a web developer. All the knowledge you need to get on the path is here, shared by people who have those skills now.

Lessons or classes are mostly videos and some come with reading material. They can be viewed on a computer, smartphone or tablet. Many include a certificate of completion that can be shared with potential employers. Classes are taught by experts who go through a review process with LinkedIn and must be approved before uploading videos or offering a class.

If you’re an authority on a subject you could be an instructor. LinkedIn Learning courses are open for any approved LinkedIn user.

If this sounds similar to Lynda-dot-com, it’s because LinkedIn bought that platform and website a few years ago and re-branded it as LinkedIn Learning. You can still access the website at Lynda.com.

LinkedIn Learning is a free app, but a subscription to the courses is $20 a month. you can try it out with a free month.
